"The Spirit of the LORD is upon me, for he has anointed me to bring Good News to the poor. He has sent me to proclaim that captives will be released, that the blind will see, that the oppressed will be set free." -Luke 4:18
Name(s): Nathan and Christina Duran
Host Country: Argentina
College sweethearts, Nathan and Christina were married in 2011 in Wisconsin. In 2015, after following God's call into missions, they sold their home, resigned from their jobs, and pursued global missions. In May of 2016, they welcomed a baby boy, Marco, into their lives.
Christina’s call to missions came after high school as a result of spending alone time with Jesus. Through her study of the Bible, the Lord revealed to Christina her calling into missions. “One day,” Christina says, “the Lord brought me 3 times to James 1:27 which says, ‘Pure religion in the sight of God the Father means caring for orphans and widows in their distress and refusing to let the world corrupt you.’ He was speaking directly to my heart revealing the identity He was ushering me into. After years of uncertainty, I finally knew there was no longer any other path for my life besides this one.”
Nathan is a third-generation missionary whose grandparents served in Cuba and Venezuela; his parents served in Venezuela, where Nathan was born, and in Spain, where he spent his high school years. Nathan’s call to missions came in college. However, years later he found himself working as a police officer back in Wisconsin. “One night,” Nathan says, “I couldn’t concentrate on my work. I turned to the Lord in prayer to ask why it seemed that my life had drifted from His plan. He spoke directly to my heart, urging me to turn back to the missions calling He had showed me years earlier. In that moment, I decided I was done chasing my own plans for my life.”
After committing to this calling, Nathan and Christina moved to Belize for 6 months of missions training through ‘Youth With A Mission’ (YWAM). It was during this time that the Lord confirmed their calling for missions and began to impart to them a vision to multiply disciples and launch disciple-making movements.
As World Partners missionaries to Argentina, Nathan and Christina are eagerly anticipating partnering with other Christian leaders to respond to the Great Commission to make disciples, raise up local, disciple-making leaders, and launch disciple-making movements for the glory of God by the power of the Holy Spirit.
